I misspoke when I said [at the 17 to 17:09 min mark] four thousand men were trained at the Citizen’s Military Training Camps between 1921 to 1940. The correct number is 400,000. I really hate it when I do that. These “trained” men, as I said in the post, were preparing to be officers, ready to go, for the next, up-coming war.
I’m just now catching up on these episodes & haven’t yet listened to this particular one.
I wasn’t able to leave a comment on #26 so I’m leaving it here. Although I’m enjoying ALL of these episodes, I wanted to compliment Hadding on his superb reading & vocal stylings on #26. I liked how they were subtle yet distinct, making the reading really come alive.
The dialogue Hadding read is a perfect example of how circuitous the speech of these folks is. Honestly, no White person should have to be subjected to their verbal whackodynamics, as it is the opposite of what normal people consider “communication.”

From out in the field, I what to say thanks to the two of you (Carolyn and Hadding) for these podcasts. I find the IJ material immensely valuable as it helps to connect the dots of history. Whenever appropriate I alert others to this book and to your wonderful reading and commentary. Keep up the great work! BTW Hadding’s voices are worthy of an award.
